Fantasy Cover art Exposition in Paris  / opening  saturday october  the 6.

Some of my book covers will be presented in a group exposition held  in the Flammarion bookstore  in  the centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France.  - The event is organised by les editions  j'ai lu -
I will be present with the other artists from 2PM to 6PM  on the opening day ( saturday, october the 6 ) . You are most welcome to drop by and say hi ( ou bonjour, apres tout : )

I have been away from the net for a longwhile, but I am creating covers on news books for flammarion, j'ai lu, l'atalante, le livre de poche. 

My blog has almost flatlined this summer but I am planning some serious changes to it, too.
It's all about changes these days. Exciting times.

Summer
I have recently been featured in lines and colors, a great blog on art. Thanks guys!
I'm / will be working on covers for l'atalante and J'ai lu this month.
Also started creating roughs/concept/images for Publicis Events since June.
Will be visiting Orleans, Paris, maybe the old grange in the pyrenees and finally brittany by the end of the month. Can't wait to enjoy these trips: sketchbook material ahead, if i'm not mistaken.

CONCEPT ART
The marketing campaigns have started on two nextgen video-games I worked on, producing early pre-production paintings.
Now I can show some art done on Midway's Black Site : Area 51 ( Xbox 360 ) and on Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword ( PS3 ). I added another image from an old canned project done for Ubisoft.

On these paintings, the job is to provide the Art Directors with a generic vision for the characters, environments, light schemes, all of this packed in a few images that also have to tell of the intended gameplay of the game.
These early images are made to give an idea of what could be, both to the dev team, and to the investors.

Springtime
I have painted more book covers for Livre de poche and J'ai lu. Also created some concept images for a film - I'll check if i can give some info. Just back from a week in the pyrenees mountains, I have posted a sketch in my blog.
I am still waiting for books to arrive and I will make sure to post new art, asap.

New year! new books :)
the two volumes of "Les nations de la nuit" 1 & 2 de Olivier JOHNSON should be out sometimes this month from Mnemos. I also painted In december a cover for Les Lames du Roi, Tome 1 : L'Insigne du Chancelier de Dave Duncan pour le livre de poche. From Fantasy to Poetry :)
In a different direction, Points / Seuil has given me the opportunity to create the cover portraits for their poesie books... It was a challenge, but worth it. More on the first book ( and the forthcoming ones ) soon. 03.12.2006

I have recently painted two book covers for Mnemos, and will be doing other art for points poesie, L'atalante, and triking games until i get lost in the pyrenees. I'm currently finishing the last images for a set of Anachronism™ . from triking games... My first work on a CCG in a while. I'll be painting book covers for Mnemos and les editions Intervista later on this month.

A slipped disk and a sciatic are still causing troubles, and I'd like to thanks my recent clients Points Fantasy, Triking games, Mnemos for their understanding. Especially Valerie at Points Fantasy.

Pascal Barret ( an old friend of mine) has opened his blog. We worked together creating concept art for Nightmare creatures I, II and Tundra. Some of the art was already displayed here, but he has plenty more cords in his basket, if you see what i mean. Go and visit him here.

After a problematic pause in my works due to health problem , I'm back in the saddle.
As I'm writing this, I'm ( finally ) finishing the cover art of "l'esprit du mage" ( working title) for L'atalante. Thanks Pierre for your patience on that one.

I managed to paint a concept piece for Parasol Island in the middle of this period.

I will paint covers for Flammarion / J'ai lu in the next days, and for le Seuil just after that.

things in Spring
My mission with Quantic Dream is now over. I am currently painting the cover for "la saga du roi Dragon II" for le seuil. The blog is updated from time to time, and I finally added a feed for it.

I am currently busy creating Concept Art for the nextgen project of Quantic Dream, the maker of the videogame Fahrenheit ( Atari, 2005 ). My job mostly consist of wrapping up environment design and color keys on this one.

Le Seuil/Point Fantasy cover art
These days, French publisher le seuil is massively releasing a new collection of Fantasy books here.
I got asked to do covert art for major authors of the genre, like Stephen Lawhead and Philip Jose Farmer. Books are out everywhere. I've put the cover of "Le Cycle D'opar " ( first, top of the page )
I have since painted other covers, For Mnemos and le Seuil, in the fantasy genre and for Romans ( not Romans in English, right? Romans, as in french ;)

More news to come very soon.

Down to ONE SITE and three clear galleries of works, the NEW LAYOUT is a much more
accessible way for me to present my activities and images to anyone interested out there.
my blog ( a selection from my sketchbooks ) is now integrated to this extented portfolio.

HOLIDAY SEASON!
I am going to my family for the holiday seasons, and will fly in the same movement to Australia for my longest travel in years. I will be back to the studio by the end of January.

I have decided to stop working on Legend of the five Rings. "Lotus Edition" will be my last set. My first contribution to this game was on "Gold Edition", back in 2001. I have since created images on (almost) every set of the CCG. It's been a good and important ride to me, but now is the time to say " sayonara ".Thanks to all the players who have been supportive of my efforts.

I am creating Concept Art for Midway and will paint the first of two new book covers for les Editions l'atalante in July. I also hope to dig through the archives and to finally update the site, sometimes.

E3 news. Ninja Theory's "Heavenly Sword" was featured in Sony's "PlayStation 3" demo.
I contributed early Character Design and Images to this NextGen game. It has changed a lot since I did these pieces ( To make things clear, none of the actual Concept Art displayed on their site is mine ) and the game sure looks good. I'm glad that the Cambridge Ninjas are doing well.

Currently painting a book cover for Les Editions Hachette. Site Update ? later on this month.

On the videogame front, I am currently busy creating Concept Art for Midway. I am also working on images for a new set of Legend of the five rings, Lotus Edition. "Lotus" will be my third L5R Edition after "Gold" and "Diamond" ...How time flies.

INFO :: Just found out that the company formely known as Just add Monsters is now Ninja Theory.
They have something for finding their company name, you can't take that away from them :)

legend of the five rings's junkies might want to visit my other website to see gestures drawings I did recently as the Hyoho Niten Ichiryu ( a Koryu fonded by Miyamoto Musashi ) was visting France. I was lucky to be allowed to sit and draw all along their training. If this doesn't influence my next images for l5R, well, I don't know what will ;)

BEET ? :: I Just noticed I had been credited on the recently released Galleon video-game as "Laurent Beauviler". I guess they meant to write "Laurent Beauvallet"

Made me realize it was time to clarify my credits within the video-game industry. The thing is, there's a certain gap of time between my involvement on a game and its release ( or not ) ; we're talking a couple of years - at best - here... Looong time.

Most people I work with happen to know me as "beet" ; Surely, "beet" is easier to remember than " what's the name of that french bloke again ?", but even though, I often get credited under my real name, just like here ... Beet, Laurent Beauvallet, whatever, same thing.
I am confident that the concept works I did these last years for Just Add Monsters, Darkworks or Ubisoft could bring some new fun to this mess, when their respective games will be out.

Only two days ago, I booked a table at a chinese restaurant and was welcomed as Laurent Beaujolais ( true story i swear ) so who knows what's in store for me in the future.

L5R players in Europe will be gathering to the German Kotei 2004, held the 26th and 27th of June 2004. I am not attending the event, but I'm providing prints for it. it's bound to be a great Kotei.
